30 by 30 Update: August 2023

Updated: Apr 7

Happy Friday! Here's a quick update of how my bucket list progress went in July.

Of course, I started my blog, and doing this has been a blast. I've loved writing content and sharing it with you guys. Being able to share bits of my life, book reviews, and tips on planning gives me something to look forward to every week. I hope you guys enjoy reading my thoughts as much as I do writing them.

I'll be getting my orange belt sometime next week, and I'm so excited. One more step towards my goal of blue belt, and ultimately, black belt.

I've been on Duolingo continuing my French practice, and I began learning Greek, which is FAR harder than I expected. The letter sounds are so different, but I've been having fun with it. I probably won't be fluent by any means next year, but I'll be happy and consider it a success if I know the alphabet and some basic greetings and sentence structure.

I've started training for my 5k, which I hope to finish in December. There is a candy cane run I'd love to participate in. You get a free hoodie and hot chocolate. Plus, in Oklahoma, running during the colder months is probably best. Running isn't as horrible as I thought it would be, and I'm learning to enjoy it.

I haven't been doing a ton of reading, and definitely not the classics. I'm hoping to make more progress on this in the fall and winter months. My wonderful neighbor gifted me a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird", and I'm working through "The Lord of the Rings" series.

I've made a list of God's faithfulness, and my accomplishments. All I have to say is "wow". Sometimes it seems like God is distant, and I haven't accomplished anything in my 20s. But seeing it on paper completely changed my outlook.

I started a Roth IRA account, and began working on home routines. I decided to go back to my old ones that worked before. It wasn't broken, so why change it? Having a schedule, and actually following through are two different things, though. I hope to become more disciplined in the coming months.

As a reminder, I've included my full bucket list, and highlighted the things either done, or in progress. I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend!

-xx Alycia

  1. Start a blog. Okay, I can check this one off the list!

  2. Do the splits.

  3. Reach blue belt. I've been taking Taekwondo class since the end of February, and I really enjoy them. My goal is black belt, but that's not realistically attainable in a year considering I'm orange stripe right now.

  4. Complete French Rookie level on Duolingo. I took French for two years in high school, and I love the language. I've gone back to it several times over the past few years, but I haven't gotten very far. I hope to change that.

  5. Complete Greek Rookie level and learn letters on Duolingo. I'm clearly an overachiever, so why not learn two languages??

  6. Start a garden. This has been a goal for two, no three, years now, but I haven't gotten past the planning stage. Let's make it happen!

  7. Learn to can. What else will I do with the overabundance of veggies I'll grow?

  8. Learn to sew. Again, something that's been on my list for many years.

  9. See the Grand Canyon. I've always wanted to see it, but I haven't had the time. I can't wait to tell my husband we're going.

  10. Go to the beach. I've been a few times as a kid, but I want to take our kids. The beach is so magical.

  11. Read 30 classic books. I love reading, but I haven't made time to read many classics.

  12. Speaking of books, who else has read ACOTAR? It's one of my favorite book series, and I have a tattoo in mind.

  13. Train for, and run a 5K. I'm not a runner, at all. So we'll see how this one turns out.

  14. Make a list of my accomplishments. Very important to see how far I've come.

  15. Make a list of God's faithfulness. Even more important.

  16. Try 12 new recipes. I really love to cook, and it will be fun to try out new recipes and share how they go. I'm on 1/12

  17. Practice gratitude. Does anyone else struggle to be grateful? I definitely do, especially when my kids are being extra and my day doesn't go as planned.

  18. Streamline my wardrobe. I have too many clothes, yet I buy more and still feel like I don't have anything to wear. Why??

  19. Read through the Bible. I've never accomplished this, but it's an important goal.

  20. Go horseback riding. No explanation needed.

  21. Complete 12 home projects. I have a lot I want to accomplish. Time for glitter pens and a new list! I'm on 2/12

  22. Make ice cream. This just sounds fun to do with my kids.

  23. Go wine tasting. Nothing fancier than tasting wine.

  24. Go on a solo trip. Where? I have no idea. Lots to plan.

  25. Start a Roth IRA. I just need to do this. Not super fun, but necessary.

  26. Attempt a 30-day no-spend challenge. If I still spend money, but keep track, does that count towards completion?

  27. Speaking of finances, I need to save more money. I have a pretty big goal. Wish me luck.

  28. Create home routines, and stick with them. I used to be really good at this, and I'd like to get back to that.

  29. Go on an out-of-state trip with my husband. Quality time with him is the best, but we don't get enough of it.

  30. Plan my "Death to my 20s" birthday party. We will all wear black, and cry tears of joy.

P.S.
