This weeks special bookish post is a review of a fantasy/science-fiction story from a brilliant friend. Brandi has published a phenomenal story, and I can't wait for you guys to read it.
Legend of Sylphar: The Silver Queen follows the journey of Ariadne (Air-e-add-nee) Sterling, as she learns how to lead her people through the complicated politics of her world, and universe. Ari is the Crown Princess of Sylphar, a beautiful and peaceful planet that treasures the silver it produces. She's barely begun learning what that means, when she's abducted by a Prince of Lyke, a hostile planet obsessed with conquering the universe. Not only that, but the Lyken King knows a secret about Ariadne that her grandfather has been keeping from her. She knows she was born different, but her grandfather and the Lyken King know the truth-Ariadne has been genetically engineered to have abilities that have been extinct for a long time. Ari is part of an ancient prophecy and is just a pawn in everyone's game.

What I Loved about The Silver Queen
First off, I love Ari. She's brave, kind, and diplomatic. She handles everything thrown at her with grace and strength, including learning she was part of an experiment to try to bring about an ancient prophecy.
Did I mention there's romance yet? I love romance, as most of you know. I typically won't read a book without it. Ari and Theeson meet in a non-conventional way, but there's some of my favorite tropes. "Touch-Her-and-Die", "Arranged Marriage", "Enemies-to-Lovers", and "Forced Proximity" are the best ones. You can't convince me otherwise. Theeson loves her so much, he lets her go, even to his own detriment. I was surprised Ari's grandfather approved of their union, since Lykens are enemies of pretty much the entire universe.
What I Didn't Love about The Silver Queen
There wasn't much I didn't enjoy. I'm usually not much of a fan of politics in books, but Brandi did a great job of making it relevant to the story, and not overly complicated. Ariadne made some poor choices throughout the book, and by poor, I mean choices I wouldn't make. If I was told to stay somewhere, especially as a princess, I'm doing it. I'm definitely NOT going to investigate and be a hero. But, that's part of what makes Ari so awesome.
I was sad her friends turned against her in the end, and she was banished from her own planet. But, she took that in stride as well, and was seemingly happy to become the Lyken Queen and reign along side Theeson instead.
Overall Rating
I give Legend of Sylphar: The Silver Queen, 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed Brandi's storytelling. I hope you guys will check out her book soon!
