Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the final book in my series, #BookTokmademereadit! I've loved doing this series, and I may do another one in the future. For now, I'm moving on to do a re-read of the Sarah J. Maas universe before Crescent City 3 comes out in January. Anyway, back to this book review. Unfortunately Yours, by Tessa Bailey, has been in my TBR pile for a while now. I thought this series would be a perfect fit for it since Tessa's books are very popular on BookTok. This is yet another, enemies-to-lovers romance. I think you guys can guess how much I love these. As an added bonus, it's also an arranged marriage romance. Two of my absolute favorite tropes in one? Sign me up please!
What is Unfortunately Yours About?
This book is the story of August Cates and Natalie Vos. August is a Navy SEAL veteran, and Natalie is heiress to the family vineyard. They met once at an event, but before it went very far, they became enemies. Natalie and August meet again, when Natalie comes back home after a failed relationship and career. But they don't seem to like each other any more than before. Though they are still enemies, Natalie proposes an arranged marriage that will benefit both of them. Will they remain enemies forever? Or will their new business scheme bring them closer together?
Warning: The rest of this post contains spoilers. If you haven't read it, and you want to, come back later!
My Thoughts on Unfortunately Yours
I loved this book. It was a nice change of pace from my usual fantasy genre. Sometimes, a light-hearted rom-com is exactly what I need. It's like reconnecting with an old friend. I used to read rom-com novels all the time before I discovered fantasy, and it's fun to return to that when I can.
Natalie and August have some of the best chemistry I've read about in a book. Maybe it's the true "enemies" part, because when they finally get together, it's explosive. August is a rugged and muscled type, who seems really tough, but with Natalie he's a big softy. At first, he thinks she's a rich snob who has everything she could ever want, but he soon realizes how wrong he is. I love how protective August is of Natalie, even from the beginning. He falls first, but Nat isn't far behind. Arranged marriage is one of my all-time favorite tropes, and Tessa did it so well. Her writing is light and easy to follow, yet still held my attention and isn't condescending.
I give "Unfortunately Yours" four stars. I'm looking forward to reading more of Tessa Bailey's books in the future. Thank you BookTok for the fantastic recommendations this month! I've enjoyed doing this series, and I plan to do more like it soon. For now, you will only see me reading Sarah J. Mass. I must re-consume all of her already-published words before Crescent City 3 comes out. If you're also an SJM fan, you know EXACTLY why this book is such a big deal. Have you read Unfortunately Yours, or any of Tessa's other books? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Also, let me know if you're as excited as I am for Miss Sarah to expend her Maasaverse. Happy reading!
