We only have a little over two weeks before we ring in a new year, and I have mixed feelings. 2023 was a good year. It wasn't what I expected - or planned for - but I learned a lot, and made some great memories. I wasn't in a hurry to get to December like I usually am, and as a result, setting goals for 2024 was a little difficult. I accomplished a lot this year, and I'm not sure how I'm going to top it in 2024. However, as any professional overachiever would, I'm going to try.
As I was brainstorming how I want 2024 to look, I had two things on my mind: my family and Alycia Plans. I have big dreams for both, so it felt like a good place to start. God, my home and family, my friends, and my business are the four (five?) most important aspects of my life., and I want my life to reflect those values. Using Cultivate What Matters Powersheets Goal Planner, I dug in with those thoughts in mind.
I have five goals for 2024. All of them intertwine and merge with each other. Powersheets has eight categories, but I'm only using five this year. My Home + Spaces goal: Cultivate a simple life; My Finance goal: Steward our finances well; My Family goal: Prioritize quality time with my husband and children; My Work + Learning category I use for homeschooling: Instill good habits and a love of learning in my children; and finally, my fill-in-the-blank category is for Alycia Plans, and my goal is to grow my business.
As I reflected on 2023, I realized the reason why I struggled so much to achieve my goals year after year is because they didn't truly matter to me. Ironic for someone who uses products from a brand called "Cultivate What Matters", right? But it's true. I always had goals that I chose simply because they sounded good, or it was what I thought I should do. This year, every single one of my goals matters a great deal to me. I want to provide a comforting and clutter-free environment for my family and friends. I want to have good home routines again. Not perfect, but consistent. I want to make better choices with our money, and be able to save for the future. I want to priortize quality time with my kids and soak up these, precious and fleeting years. I want my kids to have every tool they need to succeed as adults in this unpredictable world.
Perfectionism had a unrelenting grip on me as well. And when we strive for perfection, we usually end up stressed out and unproductive, which in turn, leads to more feelings of inadequacy. It's difficult to let go of that, but it's worth it to do the work and let it go. I've never felt more free to be myself and serve in the way God intended me to do.
What are your 2024 goals? Comment them below! I'd love to encourage you as you embark on a new year.
