Happy Friday! As you can probably tell by the title, I'm going to finally share how my No-Spend Challenge went. If you guessed "not well", you'd be correct. Unfortunately, I only lasted around ten days before my no-spend challenge went to the wayside. What did I even buy? I have no idea. I think it started with eating out, and progressed from there. I had such high hopes too. Sigh.
The first week, I did really well. I had prepared by making a list of the items that were okay to buy, and bought a few things I knew I'd need before I began the challenge. September 1, we went on a date. We don't get very many of those, and we had already budgeted for that. We play Magic: the Gathering, and that weekend was also the pre-release of a set we had planned on buying. We spent around $300 that day, between MTG and our date. But again, it was planned. So, it totally didn't count. The rest of the first week went well, and was fairly easy. Week two is when it fell apart.
Honestly, I have no idea what we even bought. I stopped filling out our spending log after about a week. I remember on day ten, we ended up eating out unexpectedly, because I could take it anymore. What can I say? I love a good cheeseburger. You know, I'm going to fill out my purchases and come back to you. Be right back.
Okay, done. I won't share exact numbers, but I will tell you compared the previous three months, we cut our spending by two-thirds. So, I'd say it wasn't a complete fail. Much progress was made, and I'm really proud of that. I'm hoping to use this momentum to continue cutting our spending and making better choices.
Have you attempted and/or completed a No-Spend Challenge? How did it go? Let me know in the comments!
