As you may have already guessed, I love reading. It's my favorite hobby. In fact, I've read over 150 books in 2023. Check out my Storygraph or Goodreads if you're skeptical. This year, I had a blast following the 52 Book Club's 2023 Reading Challenge. The challenge includes 52 book prompts to fulfill however you'd like. There's no right or wrong way to complete this challenge. You can push forward at your own pace and start whenever you'd like, though most people start on January 1. You can find the prompts on the 52 Book Club's website and official Facebook group.
This year, the creators of the challenge released a book journal companion, which is the main purpose of this blog post. The journal has the prompts listed out for you, and includes planning pages (because that's half the fun!), book review pages, additional challenges, a reading log, and more. I'm looking forward to diving into the journal, but before I do, I wanted to share my thoughts with you.
First of all, the cover is so creative. I love the vintage library card look. "Vintage" is the theme for 2024, so it's very fitting. 2023 had a comic book feel, and was super fun too. I appreciate the sweet note from the book club in the front, and the quick guide to get started. All of the 2024 prompts are listed in the front for quick reference.
Next up are the planning pages. As I've already mentioned, finding books to fulfill the prompts is half the fun! I love how you get space to write two options for each prompt, and boxes to select which one you chose. I will still be writing in pencil, because I'm indecisive and hate using correction tape.
The bulk of the journal are the review pages. You get a space at the top to record details such as the title, author, and genre. You also get a box with stars to fill in with your rating. The bottom portion is lined so you can record a summary of the book and a written review. These pages are well-thought-out and I know I'm going to enjoy filling them in as I go through the challenge.
The 52 Book Club did a fantastic job on this companion journal. It has everything I wanted, and things I didn't know I needed in a book journal. It will make a wonderful keepsake (I'm sentimental), and is a perfect gift option for your favorite book lover. You could even include a book that fulfills one of the prompts and a nice pen set. You really can't go wrong!
Will you attempt the 2024 Reading Challenge? Let me know in the comments. And be sure to follow along with me in 2024, as I share what I'm reading on the blog and my socials!
